Space Marine 3 Announcement Sparks Worries, But Developers Assure Fans That Space Marine 2 Will Continue to Be Fully Supported

The creators of Space Marine 2 have reassured fans that starting work on Space Marine 3 does not mean abandoning the PvE shooter. According to the studio’s creative director, the third installment is still years away, and supporting Space Marine 2 remains their top priority.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 became one of last year’s biggest releases, surpassing 7 million copies sold. But its journey didn’t end with the campaign and Operations mode, as Saber Interactive continues to expand the cooperative PvE shooter with long-term content updates. Although Space Marine 2 is not a live-service title, it operates in a similar way, and this structure won’t interfere with the development of the third installment – and the opposite is also true.

Space Marine 3’s Development Will Not Take Resources Away From Space Marine 2

The early announcement of Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 3 sparked concern among fans. Would this new project jeopardize support for Space Marine 2? Saber Interactive has worked quickly to clear up any confusion, with one team member confirming that the two games are not competing for resources. Instead, the studio’s primary focus remains on expanding Space Marine 2 with updates and new content. This was highlighted by Oliver Hollis-Leick, the creative director, during the latest episode of Warhammer TV.

Hollis-Leick explained that Space Marine 3 is still in the very early stages of development and is expected to follow an approximate four-year cycle. This means that the top priority is keeping the content of the current installment alive until the next game arrives between 2028 and 2030 (via PC Gamer). The Year 2 roadmap for Space Marine 2 is perhaps the clearest evidence of this commitment, and the trailer above offers a glimpse of what players can expect in the coming months.

The game has already received several new missions and enemies for the cooperative mode, along with a Horde Mode that has been very well received by the community. More updates are planned in the coming months, including the addition of the Techmarine class, an expansion to the Battle Barge, and other tweaks and features that will extend the game’s longevity. Saber Interactive aims to keep players engaged with regular content drops, and the existence of Space Marine 3 will not disrupt that plan.
