TECH NEWS – In addition to the display and manufacturing process, the hinge is also on track for the home stretch of development for the as-yet-unannounced device.
The display is one of the most important and complex components of the upcoming iPhone Fold. The Cupertino-based company is reportedly developing a wrinkle-free panel that will set it apart from the competition. According to a recent rumor, Apple has finalized this component and its supply chain partner Foxconn has assembled the production line. However, the hinge and battery are not yet ready for mass production. For several months, Samsung has been mentioned as the primary and sole manufacturer of the iPhone Fold’s main and cover screens. Earlier specifications indicated that the OLED would measure 7.74 inches (19.66 centimeters), with the cover screen measuring 5.49 inches (13.95 centimeters) diagonally. These details refer to the prototype version, so the actual specifications are subject to change.
According to Momentary Digital, mass production is unlikely to begin soon because the iPhone Fold’s display is final, but the hinge and battery are not. Rumor has it that the hinge mechanism has caused Apple the most trouble and that it contains a liquid metal material that resists bending. Apple has reportedly overcome this hurdle and reduced the component’s cost to 70–80 dollars. However, the latest rumors do not clarify the exact problem Apple is facing, as the company is cautious about incorporating the hinge into the mass production line.
Apple has also not yet decided on a battery supplier. Although the iPhone Fold is reportedly being tested with a 5,400–5,800 mAh battery, the company will implement strict quality control because there are many moving parts inside the device. Even a small deviation in these components, or extra pressure from bending or pressing the iPhone Fold, could damage the battery.
The only question now is the launch price of the iPhone Fold, which does not yet have an official name. Given the company’s premium pricing strategy, the final figure is likely to be quite a shock for the average Hungarian wallet.
