Although there has been no official announcement from Rockstar or Take-Two regarding the release of the latest Grand Theft Auto installment on PC, rumors suggest that Nintendo’s new hardware may also be in the running.
According to a reliable insider, Rockstar Games is testing the feasibility of releasing Grand Theft Auto VI on the Nintendo Switch 2. On Twitter, Nate the Hate, a well-known and historically reliable source, commented on rumors that the next installment of the series will be released on the Big N’s console, which has been available since June. He said that Rockstar Games is trying to find out if it’s possible to release the game on it. However, the current status of this experiment remains unknown. The fact that Rockstar is investigating the possibility of releasing Grand Theft Auto VI on the Nintendo Switch 2 does not guarantee that the game will actually be released on the console. In another tweet, Nate the Hate added that experimentation does not mean the game is in development. This is a common practice among developers to determine if a game can be released on a given platform.
I said a while ago that R* was doing tests to bring it to Switch 2; but tests don’t always equal release. I know an effort has been made to see if they can bring it to the platform. I don’t know the current state of that effort.

Experimenting doesn’t equal “in development” & companies often test to see if a game is possible on hardware.

Based on the limited footage available of Grand Theft Auto VI, it’s hard to say how much strain the game will put on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, but the two trailers released so far suggest that it will only run at 30 FPS on both platforms. This strongly indicates that the new installment in the series will push the limits of current-gen consoles. Since the game is reportedly so ambitious that no other title will be able to match it for decades and features advanced simulation systems that put a heavy load on the system’s relatively weak CPU and uses ray tracing, the prospects for a Nintendo Switch 2 port are poor.
Although the Nintendo Switch 2 is not as powerful as the PlayStation 5 or the Xbox Series, it has a few tricks up its sleeve. For example, it has more RAM than the Xbox Series S, which would help Rockstar port the Xbox Series S version of the game, although it would obviously be downgraded compared to other versions. The Nintendo Switch 2 also supports Nvidia DLSS, which has been used effectively in games such as Cyberpunk 2077 and Street Fighter 6 to provide an exceptional gaming experience.
Porting Grand Theft Auto VI to the Nintendo Switch 2 would be challenging but would be an impressive technical feat. We’ll have to wait until the game’s initial release in November 2026 to see if porting is feasible.
