Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo have announced the fourth installment of their dark fantasy samurai action RPG series. Following the Edo, Sengoku, and Heian eras, there will be plenty of places to fight and enemies to battle.
After Kunimatsu falls into darkness and proclaims himself the eternal shogun, a future era is twisted beyond recognition. As the Crucible swallows Edo and nearly all of Japan, Kyoto, protected by the sacred Spirit Trees, stands as the final stronghold where loyalists continue their desperate resistance. For the first time in franchise history, Nioh 3 will feature the Bakumatsu period as a new setting for players to fight through. The stage is set in 1800s Kyoto, where the land and iconic landmarks, such as the Kiyomizu and Honnoji temples, have been overtaken and transformed by the Crucible’s influence.
In addition to encountering new and fearsome yokai, players will face the Shinsengumi, a military squad serving the shogunate. These troops are formidable opponents, equipped with modern weaponry such as firearms and Gatling guns. They deliver a combination of ranged and multidirectional attacks, which is a first in the history of the Nioh series. During their journey, players will encounter a new cast of characters unique to each time period. In Bakumatsu-era Kyoto, the protagonist, Tokugawa Takechiyo, meets Takasugi Shinsaku, Okita Soji, and Tokugawa Yoshinobu, the 15th shogun of the Edo shogunate.
The third installment of Nioh 3 is expected to surpass the previous two in every way. It aims to be bigger, better, and more beautiful than its predecessors. Team Ninja is known for its high-quality games, so hopefully we will not be disappointed by the Japanese developers’ work this time. Best of all, the release date is very close, so we will not have to wait long for the game.
Nioh 3 is scheduled for release on February 6 for the PlayStation 5 and PC. However, this date is still subject to change. Knowing Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo, though, any delay is unlikely to be very long.
