Raji: Kaliyuga: Here Are The First Images From The Indian God Of War

Do not let the slightly tongue-twisting title fool you: Raji: Kaliyuga is being pitched as a kind of Indian God of War, and it is the direct follow-up to Game Awards-nominated Raji: An Ancient Epic. This new chapter promises top-tier fantasy and action wrapped around the mythologies of the Asian subcontinent, turning a hard-to-remember name into a game that might be very hard to forget.

Asia’s push into the international market with massive, big-budget projects has already given us some fascinating titles from China, South Korea, and India, and this time the spotlight falls squarely on the subcontinent. The focus is Raji: Kaliyuga, a highly ambitious production from India and a full sequel to the award-winning Raji: An Ancient Epic. The game was officially unveiled during the latest Xbox Partner Preview with a cinematic trailer that answers very little, raises a lot of questions, and leaves one strong takeaway: the new gameplay perspective is clearly aiming for a faster, more action-heavy experience.

The story of Raji: Kaliyuga picks up six years after the ending of the first game, which had already hinted that the young warrior’s journey was far from finished. In this follow-up, the conflict spills out of the human realm and turns into a full-blown cosmic war involving gods, asuras, and mysterious forces. The ancient asura lord Mahabalasura crashes into the heavens and shatters the divine balance, unleashing chaos that threatens every plane of existence. Within this turmoil, Raji returns as a seasoned fighter, joined by her brother Darsh, a young dreamwalker tormented by visions of both the past and the future.

A duo of protagonists with a third-person gameplay approach

One of the standout features of this new installment is the presence of two fully playable protagonists. Players will switch between Raji, now a master of martial arts who wields the divine Trishul, and Darsh, who gradually awakens supernatural abilities that let him manipulate gravity, time, and pure energy. This dual structure widens the range of combat options and puzzle-solving tools, while also deepening the narrative. Darsh’s introspective, conflicted outlook contrasts with Raji’s unwavering faith, giving the story a broader emotional palette and a more dynamic rhythm as the perspective shifts between both siblings.

The boldest shift, however, comes from the new third-person gameplay approach, which abandons the original game’s isometric camera. According to the studio, this is a natural evolution that reflects the time and effort invested in mastering the classic action-adventure genre. The technological leap is just as obvious: the team is building on Unreal Engine 5, using its power to push scale and detail, while still preserving the artistic identity that defined the first game, heavily inspired by traditional Indian architecture and visual motifs.

Although Raji: Kaliyuga does not yet have a release date, the studio says it “feels ready to show the fruits of its professional and artistic growth, and promises to stay in constant communication with players” as it continues work on its most ambitious project so far. For fans of myth-driven action games, this sequel looks like a bet worth keeping an eye on, regardless of how tricky its title might be to remember.
