Netflix’s Highly Anticipated Assassin’s Creed Live-Action Series Casts Its First Major Star From Euphoria

MOVIE NEWS – Netflix’s long-awaited live-action take on Assassin’s Creed has just landed its first series regular, and the role is going to an actor audiences know from HBO’s Euphoria. The high-energy action-adventure show is inspired by Ubisoft’s long-running video-game franchise of the same name. The Assassin’s Creed series was officially greenlit earlier this year, with Roberto Patino – whose writing credits include Sons of Anarchy and Westworld – and David Wiener, a writer on the Halo TV series, serving as creators, showrunners and executive producers.

When Netflix first unveiled the creative team behind its adaptation, no cast members were announced alongside them, but Deadline now reports that Assassin’s Creed has found its first co-lead. Toby Wallace, who is set to appear in season 3 of Euphoria, has joined the live-action series in a role that is being kept under wraps for now. No additional names were revealed with Wallace’s casting, yet his involvement confirms that Assassin’s Creed is deep into its casting phase, with more actors likely to be confirmed in the near future.

Even though story specifics for Netflix’s Assassin’s Creed show remain tightly guarded, the series is expected to dive into the familiar universe fans know from the games, spotlighting the clashing secret factions and the high-stakes conflicts that define it. Described as a high-octane thriller, the adaptation centers on a hidden war between two shadowy groups – one determined to control humanity’s future through manipulation and total oversight, the other committed to defending free will. Over the course of the series, the characters will move through key moments in history as they fight to shape the fate of mankind.

What Comes Next For Toby Wallace And Netflix’s Assassin’s Creed Series?

Wallace is set to be a series regular in Euphoria season 3, which is currently expected to debut in 2026. The actor has been steadily building an impressive résumé with acclaimed directors, recently appearing in Ron Howard’s Eden and Jeff Nichols’ The Bikeriders. He has also collaborated with Danny Boyle on the limited series Pistol, and more recently turned up in Justin Lin’s Last Days. Once Euphoria season 3 has aired, his next high-profile step will be the Netflix Assassin’s Creed series.

Although much about Netflix’s adaptation is still a mystery, the creative team has released a joint statement promising to handle the material in a way that respects the spirit of the game franchise they themselves grew up loving.

“We’ve been fans of Assassin’s Creed since its release in 2007. Every day we work on this show, we come away excited and humbled by the possibilities that Assassin’s Creed opens to us. Beneath the scope, the spectacle, the parkour and the thrills is a baseline for the most essential kind of human story – about people searching for purpose, struggling with questions of identity and destiny and faith. It is about power and violence and sex and greed and vengeance.

But more than anything, this is a show about the value of human connection, across cultures, across time. And it’s about what we stand to lose as a species when those connections break. We’ve got an amazing team behind us with the folks at Ubisoft and our champions at Netflix, and we’re committed to creating something undeniable for fans all over the planet.”

The new series will almost certainly seek to distance itself from the underwhelming 2016 Assassin’s Creed movie, which starred Michael Fassbender and, despite borrowing several of the games’ trademark elements, failed to impress critics and many fans. More information about Netflix’s video-game adaptation is expected to arrive in the coming months, including fresh casting announcements as production moves forward.
