The game, released nearly five years ago, has reached another milestone with a sequel in development. However, the focus is now shifting to another project.
CD Projekt RED (CDPR) published its latest financial results in the Q3 2025 earnings report. The report includes notable updates on ongoing projects and a significant update on Cyberpunk 2077, the studio’s most notorious release. Although the game’s launch was disastrous, CDPR has delivered on its promise to fix its mistakes. The company has reworked and improved Cyberpunk 2077 to such an extent that it has sold 35 million copies since its release in December 2020. This announcement came about a year after the company announced the 30 million sales figure.
In 2020, CDPR withheld copies of Cyberpunk 2077 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One from the press prior to release and only provided PC copies to hide how poorly the game ran on previous-generation consoles, thus protecting pre-orders from negative feedback. CDPR spent three years developing Cyberpunk 2077 2.0, and we can now say that the company deserves to be judged on its current work rather than its 2020 release of Cyberpunk 2077.
However, whether players can trust CDPR again will be determined by the release of the next major title, The Witcher IV. The release of the game will likely determine whether players turn away from CDPR completely or trust the developer once more. Development of the game remains the company’s main activity, with 447 developers working on it. Meanwhile, the number of developers working on the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel continues to grow. Currently, 135 developers are working in the company’s offices in Vancouver, Warsaw, and Boston. The Boston office was specifically opened for the development of the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel. After The Witcher IV‘s release, more of the company’s employees are expected to work on Project Orion, the code name for Cyberpunk 2077‘s sequel, which CDPR has begun referring to as Cyberpunk 2.
“Despite the passage of time, we are very happy and satisfied that Cyberpunk 2077 remains such a well-performing title and continues to attract new players. Sales of the game have exceeded 35 million copies, which testifies to the franchise’s enduring power and enables us to be even more audacious about charting its future,” said Michał Nowakowski, CD Projekt’s joint chief executive officer, in a presentation.
This means that Cyberpunk 2077, rather than The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, is now the driving force behind the company.
