This Dark Souls-Style Spanish RPG Is Getting A Physical PS5 Release

If the hero’s stance looks familiar, it is no coincidence – this dark-fantasy RPG openly draws on Dark Souls. Meridiem Games has announced that the Spanish-developed The Bearer & The Last Flame will launch on PlayStation 5 not only digitally but also as a physical edition.

Meridiem Games has carved out a sizeable niche in Spain’s game-distribution scene since 2014 and continues to prove its expertise with physical editions. Over the years it has not only delivered some highly recommended disc-based versions of well-known titles, it has also given a second life on store shelves to more modest, lesser-known games. The latest example is The Bearer & The Last Flame, a dark-fantasy Soulslike that takes heavy inspiration from FromSoftware’s masterpieces and is slated to arrive in 2026 with a physical PS5 edition.

For those who have not heard of it yet, the game is set in the so-called “lost land of men”. The Bearer & The Last Flame transports players to a universe where darkness has wiped out almost all life. In this forgotten realm, the souls of ancient warriors wander without rest, while demons, soulless sorcerers and creatures from the abyss rule the surface. From the mountains of Selender, however, a final flicker of hope emerges – a living soul charged with carrying the last flame and crossing the lands of night to drive the monstrous entities back into the realm of darkness.

A ‘Dark Souls’ Spanish Style

Against this backdrop, the game from Spanish studio Dark Reaper Studio aims to recapture the essence of classic Soulslikes, combining demanding difficulty with an atmospheric narrative that unfolds through symbolically rich environments populated by enigmatic characters. Players can choose from multiple heroes hailing from unique worlds, and this choice shapes both their combat style and the way they tackle the many challenges scattered across the desolate land of Hyperborea. Every hit counts, so mastering the underlying systems will be essential for survival.

Enemy variety is another central pillar of the experience. From beasts of the night to demons and soulless undead, each foe is designed to exploit the player’s weaknesses. To counter these threats, the game offers more than 200 different weapons, allowing each player to develop a personal combat style, whether focused on melee, ranged attacks or devastating arcane arts. On top of that, The Bearer & The Last Flame will feature voice acting and text in both Spanish and English, and it also comes with an original soundtrack composed by Francisco Arroyo, known for his work on The Silent Swan and Dark Mass.

While The Bearer & The Last Flame does not yet have a specific launch day beyond a planned 2026 release window, the game – as mentioned – will be available digitally on PS5 and Steam, and physically on PlayStation in two editions: a standard version that includes just the game, and The Knight’s Edition, which adds a guide and a special case. Both versions, of course, include the physical disc.
