Remedy Entertainment’s new game may be unveiled soon, and it seems that the Finnish team has more projects in the works.
The developers of Alan Wake and Control recently filed a new trademark, leaving us to wonder if we’ll get our first proper look at Control 2 in just under two weeks. The highly anticipated sequel to Remedy’s excellent 2019 third-person action game has been highly anticipated. The new trademark, Control: Resonant, may be the title of the upcoming sequel. The timing of the trademark registration suggests that we may see it at The Game Awards. Nordia Attorneys at Law Ltd. filed the trademark on November 27. This law firm works with Remedy for all of its trademarks. The registration date is also significant because, if the game is to be unveiled at The Game Awards, Remedy likely pushed the registration as close to the event as possible to avoid leaks months in advance.
The trademark labels suggest that this is the game that Remedy fans have been waiting for since 2019 because they include video game services. Another label refers to entertainment production in the form of television series and films. This label provides a more vague idea of what the trademark might refer to. The trademark may refer to Control 2 (Control Resonant), and the television and film production label indicates Remedy’s plans to adapt the Control games into a series and films.
However, this situation may change. Remedy has already signed a contract with Annapurna Interactive. Annapurna will finance the development of Control 2, and Remedy will produce a film and/or TV series in collaboration with Annapurna. This trademark may refer to the joint TV series or film adaptation project currently being developed by Remedy and Annapurna. This means that the video game services label may, in the future, point in the opposite direction—from film/TV series to games.
In March, Remedy confirmed that Control 2 had entered full development, meaning it had likely been in development for at least nine months by the time of The Game Awards. It’s possible that Remedy used this time to create a trailer for the industry’s biggest end-of-year event. Now would be the perfect time to unveil the Control 2 trailer. Since the game only entered full development this year, it is unlikely to be released in 2026. Trailers shown at The Game Awards sometimes precede the game’s release by more than a year, so there will likely be announcements of games releasing in 2027. Control 2 could be one such case.
Historical precedent, coupled with Remedy’s financial goals for the 2027–2030 period outlined in its latest third-quarter financial report, suggests that Remedy is preparing to ramp up marketing for its upcoming projects.
