Don’t Nod hasn’t achieved the same success with Life is Strange as it did a decade ago, but that’s in the past. What about the future?
From 2023 to 2025, the company experienced a period of spectacular growth, releasing several original games and establishing itself as one of the most prominent independent developers in Europe. After Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden and Jusant, the company released new games almost every year. Need4Games learned some details about a Don’t Nod project that was ultimately canceled due to layoffs during the pre-production phase.
According to the publication’s sources, the game was in pre-production for about nine months, from September 2023 to June 2024. The team was quite small, with only 15 to 20 developers working on it during this period. It was a new IP and a very ambitious sci-fi single-player action RPG that used Unreal Engine 5. Most developers today use Epic Games technology, including CD Projekt RED. Unfortunately, the site was unable to learn much about the game’s art design or other details because it was still in the pre-production phase.
However, it turns out that the developers have embarked on a very ambitious new project, the subject of rumors in recent months. It is similar to the project they mentioned earlier, but according to the sources, it is one of the most significant games in development at Don’t Nod. It will also be an open-world game. This title is unlikely to appear in the news anytime soon because it is still in the early stages of development. We will have to wait a long time for its announcement, at least a year but probably much longer.
Hopefully, this game from Don’t Nod won’t end up canceled, as another failed project would certainly not benefit the team.
