TECH NEWS – It’s a slim device with a hefty price tag. But what can we expect from the South Korean tech giant’s latest offering?
The Galaxy Z TriFold, the world’s second foldable smartphone, has finally been unveiled and may be Samsung’s most ambitious smartphone yet. The folding mechanism is specifically designed for opening and closing the TriFold, and the company has further developed the Armor Flex Hinge. Two hinges of different sizes hold the device in place. Both hinges feature a dual rail structure that ensures stability despite the device’s varying weight distribution. The titanium hinge has a thin piece of metal that protects the folding mechanism and resists wear over time. The Galaxy Z TriFold’s frame is made of advanced armor aluminum, a high-strength alloy that increases structural integrity without adding size or weight. It also has a ceramic-glass fiber-reinforced polymer back panel that provides a thin, crack-resistant design. Due to the design’s complexity, Samsung says each unit undergoes rigorous quality control testing to ensure it meets strict requirements.
When fully opened, the Galaxy Z TriFold features a 10-inch (25.4 cm) Dynamic LTPO AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2160 x 1584 and a peak brightness of 1600 nits. The refresh rate ranges from 1 to 120 Hz to extend battery life. The main display covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut. The cover display features 6.5-inch (16.51 cm) FHD+ Dynamic LTPO AMOLED technology with a resolution of 2520 x 1080 and peak brightness of 2600 nits. The 6.5-inch panel also supports an adaptive refresh rate of 1–120 Hz. The Galaxy Z TriFold is 3.9 mm thick at its thinnest point and weighs 309 grams. It is IP48-rated for dust and water resistance, and the cover display is protected by Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2.
Samsung chose the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, which is manufactured using TSMC’s 3-nanometer N3E process. Perhaps Samsung chose an older SoC to save on component costs. The Galaxy Z TriFold is available in two versions, both with 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and either 512 GB or 1 TB of storage. However, the storage cannot be expanded with a microSD card. It has a robust optical configuration, starting with a 200 MP main camera with an f/1.7 aperture and a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle sensor with a 120° field of view. There is also a third 10 MP telephoto lens capable of 3x lossless and 30x digital zoom. The front has a 10 MP, F/2.2 camera on the cover, and the main screen has a second 10 MP, F/2.2 camera with a 100° field of view. The 5600 mAh battery is 600 mAh larger than that of the Galaxy S25 Ultra and the largest of any Samsung foldable smartphone to date. It supports 45W wired and 15W wireless charging.
The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold will only be available in Crafted Black. According to earlier reports, the smartphone will cost $2,447, slightly more than the estimated $2,400 price tag of the Apple iPhone Fold. The official launch will take place on December 12 in South Korea, followed by China, Taiwan, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates. According to 9to5Google, the phone will launch in the United States in the first quarter of 2026.
