The German kobold Pumuckl is getting a game adaptation. Although the character is not well-known everywhere, he is quite memorable in these parts.
The famous German kobold, Pumuckl, is back in the 3D puzzle adventure game, Pumuckl and the Crown of the Pirate King. Players control Pumuckl as they navigate 3D puzzle levels, play mini-games, solve tricky challenges, and defeat scary enemies. There’s always a lot going on in Master Eder’s workshop, especially when Pumuckl has to tidy up. While tidying up, he finds a strange bottle containing a ship, and something is moving inside! With nerve-racking curiosity, Pumuckl opens the bottle containing the ship. Before he can shout, “Darn bottle thing!” the kobold is sucked into a magical vortex and ends up directly on the ship inside the bottle.
He wakes up in a magical pirate world that is too big to fit in a bottle. There, he meets the quirky and forgetful Captain Krimskrams, who asks Pumuckl for help. The Pirate King has cursed the ship and is hiding behind a magical door. Only golden doubloons can open the door, allowing Pumuckl and Captain Krimskrams to confront the king and lift the curse. Travel in the pirate world is possible through a magical structure with doors to other worlds, including tropical islands, enchanted ruins, and an ancient pirate castle. Tricky puzzles, skeleton pirates, kobold traps, and mini-games await Pumuckl and Captain Krimskrams at every turn. They are accompanied by the cheeky parrot Krakula, who either gives helpful tips or is amused by their misadventures.
Pumuckl moves through isometric 3D levels and completes mini-games, memory games, collecting quests, and tricky challenges. A second player can join in as Capt’n Krimskrams in local co-op. Krakula either provides hints or mocks Pumuckl’s misfortunes. Enemies include ghosts and skeletons, and the final boss fight is against the multi-phase Pirate King.
In early 2026, Quantumfrog and THQ Nordic will release Pumuckl and the Crown of the Pirate King for the Nintendo Switch and PC at a price of €40.
