Blue Prince creator Tonda Ross shared an emotional message about the years he spent quietly building the project that would one day become a global indie sensation. He admitted that they never imagined their small “bubble” of development would burst open and reach players around the world.
One of the standout moments of the 2025 3DJuegos Lenovo Awards was the announcement of the Breakthrough Game winner. Although the year was filled with major AAA releases, the indie scene claimed the spotlight, led by the remarkable Blue Prince. In a video message sent to the editorial team, Ross captured the essence of independent creation: patience, uncertainty and long-term dedication that ultimately culminated in recognition.
As shown in the video at 3:05:43, Ross became visibly emotional when recalling the early days of Blue Prince. “Back then it was a tiny project; I worked on it in secret with only a handful of people,” he explained. The overwhelming response from players took even the team by surprise: “We never imagined that so many people around the world would discover and play what we had created.”
Blue Prince blends strategy, architectural puzzles and emergent storytelling, earning comparisons to indie icons like Hollow Knight Silksong, Hades 2 and Sword of the Sea. Yet beyond its mechanics, what defines the game is the story behind it: years of quiet crafting, finally rewarded.
The Award That Truly Meant A Breakthrough
Ross concluded by explaining the deep personal value of the honor he received: “I love this Breakthrough Game award because, for me, it represents that the game has managed to break through that little bubble and simply exceeded all our expectations. I feel incredibly fortunate.” Now, Blue Prince is no longer a secret passion project but a widely celebrated indie hit, and our review explains why players have embraced it so strongly.
