The Semi-Retirement Is Over: Fallout’s Co-Creator Is Working on a Game! [VIDEO]

Tim Cain has come out of partial retirement to start working at a Microsoft-owned studio.

If you have good taste in video games, then you probably know that Tim Cain played a big role in creating some of your favorites. He is known for his work on the first two Fallout games and Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines, Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura, and many other games. In recent years, he has been semi-retired, taking on small assignments from his former employer, Obsidian, and others. He has generally focused on his YouTube channel, where he talks about game design and shares anecdotes about his career and semi-retirement.

Or maybe not anymore. In his latest video, Cain announced that he moved back to California, returned to Obsidian full-time as an office worker, acquired several new T-shirts and a Moon Man tattoo, and befriended a squirrel since his last update. That’s quite a lot! “I’m back at Obsidian. I’m their full-time employee, and I’m working in-person, not remotely. So I’m not a contractor anymore. Don’t bother guessing. You’re not going to guess,” Cain said.

What does he do? It’s hard to figure out, and, as we mentioned, Cain himself won’t reveal it. In any case, we’re curious to know what prompted the Fallout co-creator to act like John Wick and return to his old craft. Cain returned to his desk about a week ago, so we’ll probably have to wait a while to find out what he’s working on. In the meantime, he says that at least one game he has been contracted to work on will be released soon, so we have something to look forward to.

But what about his YouTube channel? It will continue to operate. According to Cain, his colleagues at Obsidian are big fans of his work on the platform, so he has nothing to be ashamed of. Although he can’t share any behind-the-scenes secrets, he’s bound by a non-disclosure agreement (NDA), he’ll definitely have plenty to talk about in the future. After all, Cain has once again become an active member of the gaming industry.
