If Diablo 4 has started to wear thin, an upcoming free trial of a new isometric ARPG could be the perfect palate cleanser, offering bold new mechanics and actively recruiting players for its next PC test.
Players who enjoy Diablo-style action RPGs but feel the familiar rhythm of Diablo 4 or Path of Exile 2 becoming monotonous may want to look toward a rising contender. Wolcen Studio’s upcoming project, Gods, Death & Reapers, blends isometric combat with piles of loot, a dedicated resource-management system, and a universe shaped by the downfall of gods from multiple mythologies.
Gods, Death & Reapers Is Searching for Testers
The game’s loop sends you out from a crypt on high-risk runs to gather equipment and resources. Retreat in time, and everything you collect is yours. Fall in battle, and you lose it all. The magic is that every run essentially resets your progress, letting players repeatedly experience the thrill of rapid leveling and risky decision-making instead of slogging through hundreds of hours of endgame grinding.
The studio has outlined the next chance to try the game for free on PC. The closed beta will run from December 18 to 20. According to the internal roadmap, the test will feature a mysterious seasonal event, numerous quality-of-life and UI upgrades, quick community-driven fixes, and balance tuning. While primarily focused on refining flow and combat feel, this test already provides a strong sense of the short-run loop and the more methodical combat pacing compared to typical Diablo entries.
Joining is simple: head to the Gods, Death & Reapers Steam page, add it to your wishlist, and request access. Previous alpha participants remain eligible and only need to download the upcoming update ahead of the beta’s start. Invitations, however, are gradual and not guaranteed, so players should monitor their inboxes as December 18 approaches.
After the most recent trailer at the PC Gaming Show 2025, the studio reiterated that the game is slated to enter early access in 2026. These tests offer the earliest opportunity for players to shape the direction of a mining-driven ARPG that aspires to rise far above the usual “Diablo clone” label.
