Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora: v2.0 Is Here with a Major Free Update! [VIDEO]

TECH NEWS – Although Massive Entertainment is preparing a paid DLC for its game, a free update has arrived for the Avatar game adaptation.

Two years ago, Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft released Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, an open-world action-adventure game set in the fictional world of James Cameron’s films. Despite the hype surrounding the collaboration between the developer of the popular The Division franchise and such a high-profile IP, which has grossed over $5.2 billion from the films alone, the game was not well-received by critics or players. Now, however, a new opportunity is opening up for the game: Avatar: The Way of Water will hit theaters on December 19. That’s why Massive is releasing a new DLC titled From the Ashes on the same day.

In the meantime, here’s the big free 2.0 update. As promised a few months ago, it includes the long-requested third-person view and New Game+ mode. Initially, it was clear from the first leaks that Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora would be a first-person-only game. However, that has now changed, potentially opening the game up to players who cannot or do not want to cope with FPP due to illness or preference. After the update, you can seamlessly switch between views on PC with the J key, on PlayStation 5 by holding down the touchpad, and on Xbox Series with the button assigned to the View command. In New Game+, you can carry over all equipment and abilities from a completed game and access Sarentu’s new skill tree and higher-level equipment. Of course, our opponents will also be stronger.

Technically, several new features are noteworthy, including Nvidia DLSS 4 (the latest transformer model), DLSS frame generation, DLSS Ray Reconstruction, XeSS 2 and XeSS frame generation. However, AMD FSR 4 can only be enabled by AMD users at the driver level, not in the game.

Nevertheless, Massive revealed several known issues related to frame generation. These include crashes upon startup when XeSS is enabled, the inability to activate frame generation when the Steam Overlay is enabled, stuttering when using FSR3 frame generation, and a significant reduction in the frame rate when switching from borderless to full-screen mode with frame generation enabled.
