We can play the second part of Hades a little differently. If we get tired of the otherwise excellent game, this mod can serve as a temporary solution.
There is so much to do in Hades 2 that it wouldn’t be surprising if we haven’t seen everything even after 100 hours of gameplay. But if you run out of things to do, we have good news! Thanks to a mod, you can replay the first Hades as Melinoë with Hades 2‘s combat system and advantages. The Zagreus Journey mod provides an additional option for leaving Crossroads; a Chaos Gate labeled “Descend into Nightmare” appears. Jump in, and you’ll return to Tartarus. There, you’ll have to battle the old shadows and traps before ascending to Asphodel, Elysium, and the Temple of Styx. Even the original game’s music makes an appearance, which is a nice touch.
However, Zagreus himself doesn’t come across, so we’ll play as Melinoë (and any companion we take with us). We’ll be equipped with one of Zagreus’s mementos and meet the pantheon to earn the blessings of Hades 2. The sequel’s magic- and rush-centric combat works well against the first game’s enemies, though they have more health and are more numerous to provide a challenge when facing endgame builds. Zagreus still appears in conversations with bosses. They take place just as they did in the original, except a ghostly Melinoë now lurks behind Zagreus. The Lernaean Bone Hydra’s necks are invisible, which wasn’t clear in the original game.
To try Zagreus Journey, you need to have both Hades games installed. You can download the mod from Thunderstore or GitHub. Before installing it, it is recommended that you remove all other Hades mods. In any case, this is Hadesception: If one game isn’t enough, you can play another one inside it.
