Microsoft hints that the next two years will reshape what Xbox means, with the 25th anniversary serving as the stage for major announcements and a bold new direction.
Microsoft has made it clear that it has no intention of stepping away from the video game industry. Instead, the company is building a long-term vision centered on new Xbox hardware and strengthened services. Now Jason Ronald, Vice President of Xbox Gaming Devices and Ecosystem, has reignited the conversation by stating that 2026 will be a decisive year in outlining the brand’s path forward.
Ronald appeared in a BBC report (via Windows Central) analyzing the ROG Ally Xbox edition, focusing on its technical design and capabilities as a handheld console. Discussing Microsoft’s collaboration with ASUS, he noted: “we’re always thinking about the future of gaming and new ways for people to play.”
While much of Ronald’s commentary revolved around the handheld device, he also used the opportunity to reaffirm Xbox’s intention to expand its role in the gaming industry. When asked about the possibility of more classic Xbox titles arriving on Game Pass, he teased what fans can expect in the coming months: “I can’t announce anything today, but 2026 marks the 25th anniversary of Xbox, and we want to celebrate our legacy while defining the future of the Xbox ecosystem.”
Reinforcing this point, Ronald added: “I can neither confirm nor deny what you’re asking, but stay tuned. We have a lot of exciting things to share next year.” With that, Xbox players have every reason to keep an eye on upcoming announcements from Microsoft’s gaming division.
Xbox Is Already Building Its Next-Gen Console
One of Microsoft’s known initiatives is to dedicate teams, time, and design resources to shaping its next-generation console. As with any upcoming tech product, the project is surrounded by secrecy, and hardware capabilities remain undisclosed. What is known is that the device will follow Microsoft’s philosophy of unified user libraries and aim to deliver a “very premium, high-end” gaming experience.
Strengthening Game Pass remains a key part of Xbox’s strategy. Earlier this year, the subscription service was restructured with new plans and increased pricing, yet it continues to expand with fresh titles every two months. This aligns with Microsoft’s broader goal of turning virtually any device into an “Xbox,” ensuring players can enjoy their games wherever they prefer.
