Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic: Is the Second Game Getting a Remake, Too?

In addition to the first part, rumors have surfaced about a remake of the sequel. Thus, Saber Interactive’s long-awaited project may be well on its way.

Stephen Totilo revealed the developer of the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KotOR) remake: Mad Head Games. Mad Head Games, a Serbian studio known for the now-defunct hack-and-slash action RPG Pagan Online and the sci-fi action/adventure game Scars Above, is developing the remake. Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival is also linked to Mad Head Games. Mad Head Games is a subsidiary of Saber Interactive, having spun off from Embracer Group.

We knew that one of Saber’s teams was working on the game because, a year and a half ago, the company’s CEO stated that development was progressing well. In March, Totilo revealed that Disney and Lucasfilm Games were planning a Star Wars KotOR II remake (codenamed Juliet), which would include content cut from the original version. He explained on Reddit that the information came from a legal filing:

“Yes, this is more than a rumor because the person who talked about it during their legal deposition was Douglas Reilly, the longtime VP of Lucasfilm Games. The reason for the March cutoff on this is because that’s when the deposition was. At that time, he said it ‘is still technically on the road map’ and ‘we’re starting with the remake of KOTOR I.’ I don’t know the status of either KOTOR remake since then,” wrote Totilo.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was originally developed by BioWare. Released in July 2003, it is considered one of the best RPGs of all time. However, its combat system seems quite outdated today. This will certainly be one of the most significant changes in the KotOR Remake, a change we have already seen in the two Final Fantasy VII remakes released so far. The sequel, KOTOR II: The Sith Lords, was developed by Obsidian and released in December 2004. It was also well received, though not as much as the first game.

Despite Totilo’s announcement, another leaker, Kurakasis, claimed that a significant Star Wars game concluding with The Old Republic will soon be unveiled, likely at The Game Awards.
