The spread of artificial intelligence is unstoppable. Now, we know what it would be like if CD Projekt RED’s game received such treatment.
AI is quickly becoming a key element in many industries, including game development. While several publishers are accelerating the integration of AI tools into their studios, inconsistent results and concerns about job loss for human artists and developers continue to spark heated debate.
However, when used properly, AI can produce impressive results in gaming. A new video by Aillusory showcases an AI remake of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, highlighting this potential. The fan project used AI to create photorealistic visuals from footage of the original game, transforming nearly every visual element, from the environment to the characters. The results aren’t perfect, but there’s no denying that this AI remake is impressive.
It largely preserves the original game’s distinctive art style, improving both the environments and the characters in a fairly authentic, photorealistic way. Users continue to praise the end result because it is so impressive. One comment states that AI will first become the best reshade filter before it is used to create games, a reasonable opinion given what can be seen in the video below.
Regardless of possible AI developments, an official remake of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, developed by CDPR, is likely years away. The original game has aged well, and thanks to the modding community’s dedication, its graphics are constantly improving. Last month, well-known modder Halk Hogan announced that the new version of the HD Reworked Project is planned for release in 2026.
In any case, we should note that the use of AI is particularly controversial these days. It’s no surprise that larger publishers are the ones most often using it to save on labor costs because it eliminates the need for certain jobs altogether.
