MOVIE NEWS – Will Arnett, the voice of Batman in The LEGO Movie, The LEGO Batman Movie, and The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, has openly said he’d love to return if a new opportunity ever shows up. He also made a point of praising Phil Lord and Chris Miller, signaling he’d happily team up with them again if a follow-up can be figured out.
For a lot of fans, Will Arnett’s performance became a definitive animated take on the Dark Knight. Across The LEGO Movie, The LEGO Batman Movie, and The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, his Batman balanced deadpan comedy with just enough heroic bite, and that mix helped turn the character into one of the most memorable parts of the LEGO universe. Now, Arnett is making it clear he’s not interested in leaving that version behind for good.
In comments to Variety, Arnett looked back on playing LEGO Batman with genuine affection, describing the experience as a standout time in his life. He said he’d love to collaborate with Phil Lord and Chris Miller again, and he also referenced how a sequel to The LEGO Batman Movie once existed in development before being canceled when the LEGO film rights shifted from Warner Bros. to Universal Pictures. Even with that history, Arnett wants people to know he’d be ready to step back into the booth if the door opens.
“I’d love to do more LEGO Batman. I love Lord and Miller. Those guys are the best. That was a really fun time in my life… We had some of my bigger laughs trying to discover the character.”
In recent years, fan interest in legacy Batman returns has been loud, especially with James Gunn and Peter Safran steering a new DC Universe. Michael Keaton is still a common wish-list pick, even after his comeback in The Flash. Arnett gets mentioned less often, mainly because his Batman is animated rather than live-action, but his comedic gravitas and distinct tone have kept him highly regarded among fans of the character.
What’s Next for Batman?
Batman’s next major screen outing is The Batman – Part II, the long-awaited sequel to Matt Reeves’ 2022 film starring Robert Pattinson. The release plan has shifted repeatedly: it was first expected in October 2025, then moved to October 2026, and later pushed again to October 2027. Production is currently slated to begin in spring 2026, following completion of the script earlier this year.
Reeves’ Batman remains outside Gunn’s main DCU continuity, but the character will also appear in a separate DCU incarnation. That project is titled Batman: The Brave and the Bold, directed by Andy Muschietti and based on Grant Morrison’s comics, in which Bruce Wayne teams up with his son Damian, who becomes the new Robin. Casting and an official release date have not been announced, though expectations place it around 2028 or 2029.
