MOVIE NEWS – Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have decided to mark the holiday season with a bang. The longtime collaborators unveiled a brand-new teaser for their upcoming Netflix action thriller, offering fans a festive surprise that hints at a major streaming hit early next year.
Affleck and Damon have once again delivered a memorable Christmas gift to fans by releasing a fresh teaser for their upcoming Netflix action thriller, The Rip. The duo shared a new video online, promising “something special” before unveiling a new sneak peek at the movie, which is set to arrive on the streaming platform on January 16, 2026.
The clip opens with Damon announcing that they have “never-before-seen footage from The Rip” to share, while Affleck jokes that he was “just gonna give them socks.” Naturally, the footage wins out, as sending socks to a global audience would be a logistical nightmare. The teaser delivers a tense warning that viewers can “count on no one,” a sentiment echoed in the film’s official synopsis: “After a team of Miami cops discovers millions in cash inside a derelict stash house, trust frays as everything — and everyone — is called into question.”
The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Sasha Calle, Scott Adkins, Teyana Taylor, and Steven Yeun, and is directed by The A-Team helmer Joe Carnahan. The director previously explained the project’s origins, saying: “The Rip came out of a deeply personal experience that my friend went through, both as a father and as head of tactical narcotics for the Miami-Dade police department. It’s inspired in part by his life and by my enduring love for classic ’70s cop thrillers that valued character and relationships.”
The Rip Could Be Another Major Win for Affleck and Damon
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have forged one of Hollywood’s most successful creative partnerships over the past several decades, and The Rip looks set to continue that streak. Speaking to GQ, Damon summed up their philosophy: “Our goal is always to make movies that we think we’ll like. It drives our creative team crazy because they ask what we’re looking for, and we just say: a good movie.”
Together or apart, both actors remain at the top of their game. Damon is set to lead Christopher Nolan’s next potential Oscar contender, The Odyssey, arriving in theaters next summer, where he will portray Odysseus alongside an all-star cast that includes Tom Holland, Jon Bernthal, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, and Elliot Page.
Affleck’s Netflix journey will also continue with Animals, along with his role as a writer on David Fincher’s crime drama Strangers, and a possible return in a third installment of The Accountant franchise.
