Is Asus Really Going Into DRAM Manufacturing?

TECH NEWS – A wild rumor has surfaced about the Taiwanese company Asus, suggesting that it may start manufacturing DRAM in addition to motherboards and video cards. But is there any truth to this?

Asus is reportedly entering the DRAM manufacturing segment next year, which would ensure a stable memory supply for its PC products. The current memory crisis has affected all areas of the PC business, and manufacturers can’t do much about it. Most have already raised their product prices, and the shortage will lead to delays in the coming years. However, it seems that one of the largest PC manufacturers has decided to solve the memory shortage by entering the DRAM business.

According to a rumor published by Sakhtafzarmag, a Persian technology portal, Asus plans to enter the DRAM market on a large scale as early as 2026. This same portal previously leaked information about AMD and Intel CPUs that later proved correct. Asus plans to set up special DRAM production lines by the end of the second quarter of 2026, unless memory prices and supply normalize. Recently, reports have emerged suggesting that the memory chip shortage may persist until late 2027 or even 2028. As one of the largest PC manufacturers, Asus has the capacity to enter the DRAM market. Nevertheless, setting up a plant dedicated exclusively to DRAM production will be a significant undertaking.

If the rumors are true and Asus enters the DRAM market, the company will focus on optimizing the supply of its products, which include laptops and desktop PCs. The ROG and TUF product lines are key business areas for Asus, which, like other PC brands, is reluctant to pay extra costs for the memory required for these products. This move comes at a time when other memory manufacturers, such as Micron‘s Crucial, have already exited the market. Micron was the main brand responsible for manufacturing DRAM products, serving a huge market with server and data center products that are currently being absorbed by AI. Similar to Samsung and SK Hynix, Micron has been striving for profitability, but survival is more important for Asus in the current crisis.

However, Taiwan’s Central News Agency (CNA) received a statement from Asus regarding the DRAM rumors. The statement said that Asus currently has no plans to invest in a memory wafer manufacturing plant.
