A Horror Game Where Control Is an Illusion – and That’s the Point

An upcoming indie horror shifts its focus away from jump scares and toward sustained psychological pressure. UN:Me follows a young woman whose mind is inhabited by four distinct personalities, all while she navigates a surreal mental labyrinth. Developed by SHUEISHA GAMES and historia Inc., the PC-exclusive title is set to launch in 2026, using liminal horror to explore identity, agency, and the weight of choice.

The indie scene once again delivers a concept that stands apart from the mainstream. If anxiety is a constant presence in everyday life, UN:Me transforms that feeling into a fully realized game experience. The protagonist’s mind becomes a closed, unstable labyrinth, inhabited by the souls of several deceased individuals who are far more than passive memories.

Based on what is known so far, UN:Me is a narrative-driven adventure in which players guide a young woman trapped within this internal maze. Along the way, four distinct “human souls” accompany her, each driven by personal desires, unresolved trauma, and unfinished business. These voices actively attempt to seize control of the body, while the player works to uncover who they once were and how they came to reside within her mind.

When the Souls Take Control, the Game Changes

One of the game’s defining features is its constantly shifting identities. Within the labyrinth, the souls can assume control without warning, regardless of the player’s previous decisions – decisions that are central to the story’s progression. Each identity comes with its own abilities, behavioral traits, and psychological scars, reshaping both the threats encountered and the actions available.

What makes this system especially compelling is how those traumas manifest during gameplay. Emotional wounds can distort vision, alter sensory feedback, or even affect movement itself, reinforcing the sense that the labyrinth is a living projection of psychological pain.

This is further expanded through a dedicated Dialogue Mode, which allows direct interaction with the souls using special items discovered throughout the environment. These fragments of memory reveal hidden truths, provide crucial clues, and gradually expose the background of each personality.

The most difficult choice, however, arrives later. As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that only one soul can ultimately remain in control: the player’s own, or one of the four accompanying identities. According to the developers, UN:Me is designed to “confront players with an emotional dilemma that leaves lasting consequences on every playthrough”. A bold and original experience scheduled to arrive on PC in 2026.
