MOVIE NEWS – Many viewers feared that the final season of Stranger Things could repeat the missteps that damaged Game of Thrones. While the show has avoided a full narrative collapse, the latest episodes have still managed to mirror one infamous Thrones blunder. A small but telling detail appeared on screen that simply should not exist in the era depicted.
There has long been concern that Stranger Things might stumble at the finish line and undermine years of storytelling. While the series has not completely derailed – despite mixed reactions to the new season – it has drawn attention for a continuity slip that sharp-eyed fans quickly picked up on.
The mistake appears during the scene in which Holly Wheeler escapes Vecna’s control. In the shot, she is wearing an Under Armour shirt, with the brand’s logo clearly visible on her sleeve. Many viewers likely missed the detail, did not recognize the brand, or assumed it was era-appropriate.
The issue is that Under Armour did not exist at the time. The company was founded in 1996, while the final season of Stranger Things is set in 1987. This places Holly’s clothing nearly a decade ahead of its time, making it an impossible item within the show’s timeline.
The oversight has inevitably been compared to Game of Thrones’ infamous Starbucks cup incident in its final season, as well as other continuity errors such as a modern water bottle and an extra wearing contemporary clothing. While the Stranger Things gaffe is unlikely to reach the same level of notoriety, it once again highlights how difficult it is to maintain complete historical accuracy in film and television.
Stranger Things Is Set to Conclude With a Major Finale
Stranger Things has now released seven of its eight final episodes. Although the season began strongly, the latter half has been met with a cooler reception, with Episode 7 earning the lowest IMDb rating in the show’s entire run.
The series will conclude on New Year’s Day, revealing the fate of Eleven, Mike, the Upside Down, Vecna, and the town of Hawkins, Indiana. Season 5 has dramatically reshaped everything fans thought they knew about the Upside Down and Vecna’s intentions, paving the way for a potentially devastating finale that could claim several major characters.
Whether the Duffer brothers can deliver a satisfying conclusion will soon be known, but the creators have repeatedly stated that they have always understood where the story was heading. According to them, the final scene and the last forty minutes were mapped out years ago.
“Obviously, it’s stressful trying to figure out how you want to end the show. Luckily, it was about six or seven years ago that we knew at least what the final scene is. We always knew what the last 40 minutes were going to be” – they explained.
Stranger Things is currently streaming on Netflix, with the final episode set to premiere at 8 p.m. ET on December 31, 2026.
