Monster Hunter Wilds: Nintendo Switch 2 Port? The Audience Is Skeptical!

There are signs that Capcom may release the latest Monster Hunter installment on Nintendo’s new hardware, but many are skeptical.

While opinions differ on how Monster Hunter Wilds develops the series’ signature formula and gameplay further, it’s undeniable that the game’s performance on PC and consoles isn’t optimal. The fourth update is a step in the right direction with over 100 performance fixes, but more work is needed to solve one of the game’s biggest problems. In addition to improving Monster Hunter Wilds‘ performance, however, data mining has revealed that Capcom may be working on a Nintendo Switch 2 port of the game.

Some dedicated users thoroughly examined the aforementioned update and discovered information about the possible future release of Tempered Gogmazios and additional content. The most interesting discovery is the addition of platform information that includes “nsw2UpgradeEdition,” likely referring to the game’s release on the Nintendo Switch 2. Considering how Monster Hunter Wilds runs on PC and consoles, the community’s reaction was unsurprising.

The game barely runs properly on PC, yet Capcom expects it to be ported to the Nintendo Switch 2. This port seems even more impossible than the Cyberpunk 2077 and Final Fantasy VII Remake Integrade ports for the Nintendo Switch 2. Some people jokingly say it will run at 480p and 20 FPS or be upscaled from 160×144 to 1920×1080. “Potato Mode” is also a recurring joke. But jokes aside, how feasible is a Nintendo Switch 2 port of Monster Hunter Wilds?

Given that Nintendo’s platform has received excellent multiplatform ports in the past, it’s clear that running the latest installment of the series on the system could be challenging. Currently, even with aggressive resolution upscaling, the Steam Deck struggles to run the game, so it would require significant optimization to achieve a stable 30 FPS. However, since the Nintendo Switch 2 supports Nvidia’s DLSS upscaler, this port could perform surprisingly well, especially if performance continues to improve on other platforms.
