PlayStation Plus Essential: Which Games Will Sony Start 2026 With?

The end of the month is here again, and Sony has revealed which games PlayStation Plus subscribers can access for free in January.

This time, the announcement came on New Year’s Eve, the Wednesday before the first Tuesday of the month. On December 31, Sony revealed which games PlayStation Plus Essential, Extra, and Premium subscribers can add to their accounts and play as long as their subscription remains active.

The first game in January is Need for Speed Unbound for PlayStation 5, the latest entry in the franchise. It is worth noting that it was already available to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers between February 2024 and August 2025, meaning this will be a repeat for mid- and top-tier subscribers. The second game is Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed (PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4), a modernized version of a decade-and-a-half-old title. The third game is Core Keeper (PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4), the usual indie pick. Sony previously stated that PlayStation 4 titles would no longer be guaranteed from January onward, yet cross-gen releases are still present.

As a reminder, here are the games that became available for free in December. There is still time to claim them, as more titles than usual were offered. The first was Lego Horizon Adventures (PlayStation 5). The second was Killing Floor 3 (PlayStation 5), considered by many to be one of the year’s bigger disappointments. The third was The Outlast Trials (PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4). This time, there were not three but five titles available on PlayStation Plus Essential. The fourth was Synduality: Echo of Ada (PlayStation 5), and the fifth was Neon White (PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4).

The January games will be available starting January 6. We expected a stronger start from Sony.
