Seven Months Ignored: Xbox Could Lose a Promising RPG

“We stopped submitting our games” – says a Chinese publisher after months of silence from Microsoft. Sword and Fairy 4: Remake has gained strong international traction, but Xbox players received bad news: there are currently no plans for an Xbox Series X/S version, and it is not the developers’ choice.

The China-developed RPG announced last week went viral almost instantly. Sword and Fairy 4: Remake drew attention not only for echoes of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, but also because it remakes the most popular entry of a franchise successful in Asia for nearly three decades. That excitement faded quickly when it emerged the game is not coming to Xbox for now.

The situation is particularly frustrating because the developers and publisher actively wanted a Microsoft console release. The obstacle, however, lies with the platform holder.

Xbox Is Neglecting Its Partners

Publisher Cube Game confirmed the situation on social media when responding to a fan question, explaining ongoing difficulties working with Microsoft.

“The truth is we joined ID@Xbox last year, and they still haven’t sent the development kits”, the publisher said. They claim to have waited more than seven months for the tools required to build for Xbox, despite passing the selection process and receiving approval.

As a result, Cube Game decided not to submit Sword and Fairy 4: Remake to the Xbox Partner Program at all. “No, we didn’t submit this game. We submitted two others in May and June, both were approved, but we still didn’t receive the dev kits. So we stopped submitting games”, they wrote on X.
