During development, Warhorse Studios considered a solution inspired by GTA San Andreas’ famous weight mechanic. Excessive realism ultimately led to the system being scrapped.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has established itself as one of the most demanding and distinctive RPGs of recent years, reflecting Warhorse Studios’ commitment to realism and complexity over accessibility. Many players regard it as one of the best games of 2025, despite strong competition. Still, the Czech studio nearly pushed realism even further with an ambitious system inspired by GTA: San Andreas that would have allowed Henry to gain or lose weight.
The idea surfaced in an interview with PC Gamer, where Martin Klíma, Warhorse co-founder and executive producer, revealed that the team seriously considered a mechanic similar to the one seen in CJ’s 2004 adventure. In that GTA entry, body changes were not merely cosmetic, as they directly affected gameplay elements such as stamina while running.
Why Henry’s Physical System Was Ultimately Cut
Had it been implemented, Henry’s physique would have evolved dynamically based on his diet, directly influencing which clothes or armor pieces he could equip. The original plan went even further, featuring NPCs with varied body types and garments that might fit poorly, reinforcing the game’s visual realism.
In the end, the studio decided to abandon the idea, judging the existing clothing and armor systems complex enough. According to Klíma, adding another interconnected layer risked frustrating players rather than immersing them. “It was too strange, too much work, and not particularly fun,” he admitted.
The concept of a muscular or overweight Henry now remains a development curiosity, highlighting the sheer ambition behind the project. Who knows, perhaps battling beer-bellied soldiers would have been just as memorable.
