HANDHELD NEWS – Lenovo’s handheld PC will soon be available with Valve’s gaming-focused operating system pre-installed.
Lenovo has announced a new model of the Legion Go handheld PC that comes with SteamOS pre-installed, delivering a more console-like experience. Originally released last September, the Legion Go features AMD’s Ryzen Z2 Extreme system-on-a-chip, offering strong performance and several additional advantages. While the original model ran on Windows 11, Lenovo has now introduced a version with native SteamOS support.
Having SteamOS installed natively is a major advantage, particularly for PC gamers who already use Steam. It provides a console-style interface and immediate access to a library of thousands of games. Steam features such as Family Sharing, local network file transfers, and Steam Remote Play are also supported, allowing users to stream and play games installed on their PC remotely via an internet connection.
Lenovo has kept the hardware specifications of the SteamOS version unchanged. The device still uses the 8-core Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor and can be configured with up to 32 GB of LPDDR5X-8000 memory and up to 2 TB of Gen4 NVMe SSD storage. It includes a 74 Wh battery with 65W USB Type-C charging. The 8.8-inch (22.35 cm) OLED display offers a WUXGA resolution of 1920 × 1200, 500 nits of brightness, and a 144 Hz refresh rate.
The handheld PC will not come cheap, however. Lenovo plans to begin selling the Legion Go Powered by SteamOS in June, with a starting price of $1,200. Prices in Europe are expected to be significantly higher due to VAT and the common 1:1 dollar-to-euro conversion.
