MOVIE NEWS – Producer Will Packer didn’t mince words when asked whether his new film, You, Me & Tuscany, sounds like a classic-style romantic comedy based on its story.
“That’s exactly the kind of movie we wanted to make,” Packer replied. “I think traditional romantic emotions have faded a bit from today’s cinema, and we wanted to bring them back – but not with backward-looking nostalgia: with energy and humor, always staying grounded in reality. That’s why we chose Tuscany: our clumsy American heroine finds true love on the rolling hills of a sunlit wine region, in a kind of comedy of errors.”
The heroine of You, Me & Tuscany is Anna (Halle Bailey – The Little Mermaid, The Color Purple): her big dream is to become a respected chef, but after a string of bad choices it seems the best she can hope for is a kitchen-helper role. At the start of the story, she’s working as a house-sitter, but one misstep costs her the job – and with it, her place to live. That’s when she runs into Matteo, and the handsome Italian invites her to his Tuscan villa. Anna has barely moved in when Gabriella (Isabella Ferrari), Matteo’s mother, shows up – and since improvisation has never been her strength, the young woman hastily claims to be Matteo’s fiancée. That quickly becomes a problem, because before long Matteo’s cousin Michael (Regé-Jean Page – Bridgerton, Black Bag) appears, and the meeting proves earth-shaking for them both.
