The Rockstar Secret They Never Expected Anyone to Find in Red Dead Redemption 2

The final secret of Red Dead Redemption 2 is far more than a fan theory. Adam Butterworth, who handled QA duties at Rockstar, confirms that the mystery is not deleted content, but a secret deliberately created by the studio.

Seven years have passed since Red Dead Redemption 2 launched, yet Rockstar’s masterpiece keeps generating conversation thanks to the many details and secrets fans continue to uncover. The latest discovery has been especially striking, because players noticed a spider-shaped symbol that points toward one of the game’s most obscure mysteries. The clue is so well hidden that plenty of players assumed it must be cut content that should not have survived into the final build. A former Rockstar employee, however, has confirmed that it is a real enigma implemented by the developers.

Fans Have Been Investigating the Enigma for the Past Few Weeks

Shortly before the end of 2025, Red Dead Redemption 2 grabbed attention again when players discovered a strange spider carved into a telephone pole southwest of the Leviticus Cornwall refinery. The carving is only fully visible between 3 and 4 AM in-game.

The detail went viral thanks to a video from content creator Strange Man, and it quickly opened the door to a larger, multi-step mystery. That has kept the community on edge for weeks, because it appears to be a secret never seen before in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Since then, fans have been tackling the mystery together, sharing discoveries and theories across social media. The puzzle is so hard to untangle that many believe what has been found so far is simply leftover cut content Rockstar forgot to remove. Adam Butterworth, who carried out QA work at the same studio behind GTA, has shut that idea down by confirming the developers were actively designing this secret while he worked there.

Butterworth wrote on X: “It’s absolutely insane that people have found this. I remember hearing about it and thinking it would never be discovered.” That means the enigma does have an endpoint, and the community is right to comb through every detail carefully despite the roadblocks. At the same time, Butterworth is not interested in making it easy for anyone, and his post includes no hint about what the next step might be.

For now, based on Strange Man’s most recent YouTube findings, it looks like players are getting close to solving the mystery. Even so, there are still a few steps left, and they will need to keep exploring the vast world of Red Dead Redemption 2 to uncover what could very well be the game’s last great secret. Rockstar built such an incredible game that fans have searched high and low for every possible detail, easter egg, and enigma since its release in 2018. Yet it seems the creators of GTA still wanted to leave one final challenge for people who love this kind of investigation.
