Stoic and Xbox Game Studios are turning their side-scrolling action RPG/brawler, currently in early access, into a multi-platform release.
Rise again as an Ace, an immortal warrior reborn to defend the Belfry from the darkness beyond its walls. Travel across a ruined world, uncover the mystery of the fallen City of Numbers, and push back the corruption threatening humanity’s survival. Experience classic combo-based brawler combat fused with modern RPG elements. Customize your Ace with powerful gear, try out different combat styles, and refine your skills. Every fight makes you stronger, every victory opens up new strategies, and every weapon reshapes your journey. Whether you want quick, easy-to-learn gameplay or deeper systems to master, Towerborne lets you choose your play style. Its fast-paced, responsive combat rewards timing and creativity, so every encounter stays fresh and challenging as you grow stronger.
Team up with up to three other Aces, or jump in solo with the help of Umbra’s unique abilities. Teamwork ramps up the chaos and excitement, where synergy and strategy decide victory and defeat. Rally together to fight as one. Towerborne goes beyond combat with an engaging story campaign designed to build excitement and deliver relentless action. For players who want more than just battles, Towerborne’s full story campaign brings the tale of the Belfry’s survival to life, along with its characters and stakes. Explore, progress, and uncover the world at your own pace, then continue the Ace journey offline, and reconnect online later to fight alongside friends without missing a beat.
In version 1.0, the developers updated and expanded the story, adding a main antagonist, new side quests, and a reworked Bounty Board. Two new bosses were added, including the big bad main boss (the aforementioned antagonist), their lieutenants, and Umbra enemies. They also introduced a completely new difficulty system, fully rebalanced the game, and added a new “Brutal” difficulty tier for those who enjoy smashing controllers and swearing at their screens. The world map was reworked and reimagined, and a new coastal biome was added. New gear and player abilities arrived, along with a new Forge system that allows stats to be modified, upgraded, and rerolled. New music from legendary composer Austin Wintory is included, alongside many quality-of-life improvements and bug fixes. There are no more cosmetic purchases – every cosmetic item can be earned for free through gameplay, with plenty of new cosmetics added, plus more save slots and the option to import your current character and associated loot.
Towerborne launched on PC in early access on September 10, 2024 (via Steam), then Xbox Series received a Game Preview version on April 29 last year via the Microsoft Store. The PlayStation 5 version releases on February 26, and that’s also when the game exits early access on the other platforms. The base edition costs $25, while the Deluxe edition is $30. It will also be available on Xbox Game Pass.
