A Half-Life Noir Thriller Mod? The Last Goodbye Provides It! [VIDEO]

This is an excellent mod that offers a complete overhaul – i.e., a total conversion solution.

Recently, a surprising number of Half-Life total conversions have emerged. In November, Diffusion, an extremely ambitious sci-fi adventure game, was released. Its environment is impressive, especially considering the age of the technology. However, the AI-generated speech function was poor. Fortunately, the creator is already working on fixing it and has introduced some of the human characters featured in the English dubbing.

The GoldSrc engine was used in the pulp noir thriller The Last Goodbye, created by a Half-Life modding team called the Guild of Inventors. We can take on the role of Lucille, a hitwoman nicknamed Banshee, who is hired to kill the most dangerous gangster in the city of Prava: a cigar-smoking criminal genius known as Bullseye. An army of gorillas armed with pipes and pistols stands between us and our target, and they are determined to get their hands on our guns.

Although The Last Goodbye clearly carries the DNA of Half-Life, its creators say the mod is as much a puzzle and exploration game as it is a shooter. The Last Goodbye places great emphasis on storytelling, with in-game dialogue and cutscenes both playing a role. The latter are inspired by telesnap reconstructions of lost episodes of Doctor Who.

Throughout the game, we engage in numerous fights, employing pistols, rifles, and even dynamite to eliminate Bullseye’s henchmen. The fights are challenging because Lucille lacks the protection of Gordon Freeman’s HEV suit. However, Lucille seems a little more agile than Gordon and can punch her opponents. Prava evokes the atmosphere of Tim Burton’s Gotham City, featuring atmospheric lighting and a blend of Victorian Gothic townhouses and Art Deco skyscrapers adorned with sultry neon lights.

The Last Goodbye is available for download on ModDB. However, the current build only includes one of the three planned acts. According to the modders, development of the second act is progressing well, with levels and models being prioritized. Three new enemy types and two new weapons will also be added.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
