A GTA fan fighting terminal cancer may get the chance to play GTA 6 before the game officially releases. According to the story going viral, Rockstar has already made contact with the family and there is “great news.” The situation was pushed into the spotlight by a Ubisoft developer who publicly asked for help and claims that, after a response involving the owner of Rockstar, the family has already spoken directly with the GTA 6 studio. Reports now suggest Rockstar contacted the terminally ill fan in an effort to let him experience GTA 6 early.
In an industry as massive as video games, there are rare exceptions made for deeply human reasons – and health is one of the biggest. Over the last few hours, a story has gone viral suggesting Rockstar Games may have granted an early private play session of GTA 6 to a terminally ill series fan. The situation began with a LinkedIn post (now deleted) by Ubisoft developer Anthony Armstrong, who publicly appealed to Rockstar for help.
A Fan Could Play GTA 6 Before Anyone Else
The post read: “To all my contacts at Rockstar Games, or anyone who can help. A member of my family who has been battling cancer for years has just received the worst possible news: they’ve been given 6 to 12 months to live. The reason I’m reaching out is that they’re a huge GTA fan and, with this latest update, they may not be around long enough to see the release of GTA 6; at best, they’ll leave us the same month it comes out”, as quoted via Vida Extra. Armstrong also explained that his relative lives near the Oakville studio, which is why he hoped someone could arrange an exclusive playtest so the fan could experience the game before passing away. He also made it clear he understood how critical secrecy is at this stage of development, and that signing a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) would be expected.
Insider Gaming later picked up follow-up messages that strongly hinted at a positive development. Armstrong reportedly posted afterwards: “The CEO of Take-Two contacted us. We spoke with them today, and they gave us some great news. That’s all I can say, but thank you all from the bottom of my heart.” It’s still not officially confirmed whether the fan will indeed get to play GTA 6, but the wording makes it sound extremely likely. And it wouldn’t be the first time this kind of request has been honored: a similar situation happened with Red Dead Redemption 2, and another comparable case reportedly occurred last year involving Borderlands 4 and a different player.
