The Division’s Lead Producer Has Left for a Rival!

This raises the question we’re almost afraid to ask: what future does Ubisoft’s franchise have without him?

Julian Gerighty, producer of The Division series, has left the French publisher to join Electronic Arts and Battlefield Studios. Even though Gerighty’s return to The Division and his appointment as the franchise’s lead figure was widely seen as a major sign of Ubisoft’s confidence in The Division 3, his departure now puts that reassurance to the test – and Ubisoft clearly doesn’t want the player base to panic. The news was shared via Ubisoft Massive’s official Twitter account, where the studio wrote that once an agent, always an agent. Gerighty’s exit is now confirmed after rumors surfaced online back in October suggesting he was leaving, which Massive directly denied at the time.

“Today, we want to share that Julian Gerighty, executive producer of the Tom Clancy’s The Division franchise, is heading off to a new adventure at Battlefield Studios. While we’ll miss him, his mark will live on at Massive, and we’ll continue to bring the world he helped create to our players for years to come. For our players: Don’t worry, agents. The teams that built this world with Julian are still here and will carry it forward with an ambitious commitment to the future of The Division 2, The Division 2: Survivors, The Division Resurgence, and The Division 3,” wrote Massive.

Gerighty himself added that it was time to hang up his go bag (while keeping the watch) as he moves on to a new grand adventure. He said the future of the franchise burns bright, and that he can’t wait for players to discover what the teams have been working on. Both Massive and Gerighty clearly intended their messages to calm fears, but it’s questionable whether they managed to do so. Under Massive’s announcement, numerous comments show fans voicing genuine concern about the future of the The Division franchise – and, most importantly, about The Division 3 – and it’s hard to blame them.

Looking at Ubisoft’s overall situation, it’s nearly impossible for The Division fans not to feel uneasy about what comes next. Gerighty is only one person, and he wasn’t the sole reason the franchise became the third-person shooter series its audience loves, but his departure still raises an uncomfortable question: what does it say about the state of a company when it loses yet another veteran developer who held a leading role in one of its most important franchises?
