They’re Already Calling It “Concord 2”, Yet Marathon Just Hit A Major Steam Milestone Before Launch [VIDEO]

Many are already calling it “Concord 2” and labeling it the big flop of 2026, yet Marathon has still managed to reach a major milestone on Steam before launch. Bungie and PlayStation’s shooter has climbed into Steam’s best-selling products worldwide based on revenue.

At this point, it’s hard to argue that players are happy with Marathon – at least not with what Bungie has shown so far. Ever since the initial reveal, the Bungie and PlayStation project has been met with criticism, and the backlash became loud enough that the developers ultimately announced a delay in order to polish the shooter. But here’s the strange part: despite the negative reputation the game has built up – it’s already earned the nickname “Concord 2” as a jab at Sony’s failed games-as-a-service attempt – it has still become one of Steam’s best-selling products in terms of preorder revenue.

As of writing, Marathon has reached #12 on Steam’s global top-sellers list based on revenue. That ranking includes consistently profitable free-to-play giants like Counter-Strike 2 and PUBG: Battlegrounds, along with the ever-present Steam Deck. However, if we narrow it down to paid games only, Bungie’s shooter is currently behind just ARC Raiders, EA Sports FC 26, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and Quarantine Zone: The Last Check.

Does that automatically mean it’s going to be a hit? Not necessarily. As noted earlier, a lot of players are unhappy with the design decisions Bungie made when shaping Marathon’s world and overall experience. Still, the fact that the title has secured a position in Steam’s global best-selling list shows there’s real interest in its premise. Now the big question is whether that momentum holds over the coming weeks – and, more importantly, whether it grows once the game is actually out.
