Enough is Enough! Ubisoft Developers Call A Strike Over Layoffs And Cuts!

Ubisoft developers have reached their limit and are calling a strike to protest the company’s layoffs and austerity measures. Video game unions in France have announced a work stoppage scheduled between February 10 and 12.

Ubisoft developers are still dealing with the fallout from the “total reset” the company revealed just days ago. The team behind Assassin’s Creed has scrapped six projects, including the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, postponed seven more, and outlined plans for additional workforce reductions. A collective redundancy process has already been launched at Ubisoft Paris, targeting the removal of 200 positions. As conditions worsen and frustration grows, employees have decided to organize a strike in France.

According to details shared by the French outlet Les Echos, as relayed by Insider Gaming, several unions representing Ubisoft staff – Syndicat des travailleurs et travailleuses du jeu vidéo, Solidaires Informatique, CFE-CGC, CGT, and Printemps Écologique – have jointly agreed to stage a strike in France from February 10 to 12, 2026. The action will not be limited to those dates, as these organizations also intend to alert partners working with Ubisoft personnel worldwide about the situation unfolding in the company’s country of origin.

The strike is framed as a direct response to Ubisoft’s recently disclosed restructuring plan. The publisher has stated its goal of cutting €200 million in expenses over the next two years, a target that can only be met through job cuts and staff downsizing. Recent reports suggest that Ubisoft could dismiss up to 2,000 employees in the near future in order to reach its savings objective.

As if this were not enough, Ubisoft has mandated a full return to office work, requiring staff to be physically present five days a week, a rule many cannot comply with because they were hired for remote roles. For numerous employees, this measure is viewed as a concealed layoff strategy aimed at pushing out those unable to relocate or move closer to Ubisoft’s main offices.

Tears And “Suicidal Comments” Inside Ubisoft

The situation at Ubisoft has reached a breaking point, and it is the developers who are bearing the brunt of it. Reports that surfaced only hours ago indicate that the restructuring is severely affecting workers’ mental health, with morale at rock bottom, staff members breaking down in tears, and even “suicidal comments” being mentioned. In response, teams are now standing up to say “enough” to a wave of measures that threaten the job security of thousands.
