“We have two new games in development.” The creators of Arc Raiders have now outlined what’s next, and it’s far more ambitious than we expected.
In just two years, Embark Studios has moved from relative obscurity to becoming one of the industry’s most respected developers. Strong work on The Finals and, above all, the success of Arc Raiders has pushed the studio into the spotlight, and it has now made it clear it doesn’t intend to ease off.
Patrick Soderlund confirmed as much in an interview. While many assumed the team would be fully occupied by constant updates for its two live-service titles, the CEO says they’re also working on two additional games that haven’t been announced yet.
Embark Studios shares what comes next
In a conversation published by IGN, Soderlund was asked what the success of Arc Raiders means for the studio. “You don’t need to be a math teacher to realize we’ve done well” – he joked, before stressing the internal impact on the company: “For us, [the game’s success] has meant long-term stability and security. We’ll be able to live off the money from Arc Raiders for a long time, and that gives us financial security and job stability for the people who work here”.
Those are the kinds of remarks that deserve celebration, but the real surprise came immediately after. “We’re growing the studio and hiring people. We want to add more content to Arc Raiders and The Finals. We also have two new games in development that we hope to finish someday” – the executive said.
The message stayed deliberately vague, with Soderlund unwilling to share details about what the projects are or when they might surface. The only reasonable assumption – driven more by studio culture than explicit hints – is that they’ll be multiplayer.
Even so, the announcement is striking. No matter how much Arc Raiders has earned, scaling this quickly is difficult, and maintaining two games-as-a-service is already a heavy lift that only a handful of developers can handle. Adding two more projects on top – however long-term they may be – would sound unthinkable even for some giants, yet it’s hard to pretend we aren’t curious about what Embark will try next.
