Did PlayStation Reveal Too Much? Wolverine’s Release Window May Be Narrower Than Expected

PlayStation might have let slip an important detail regarding Wolverine’s launch. The Mexican PlayStation Store lists the Wolverine game for the “third quarter of 2026.” That timeframe runs from July through September.

In previous years, major PlayStation Studios teams delivered more than two exclusive releases, but 2026 is set to bring just two big titles to PS5, even if one marks the return of one of Sony’s most celebrated Japanese studios. Insomniac Games is heading back into the Marvel superhero universe with Wolverine, currently planned for the fall. However, with GTA 6 looming next November, many have wondered whether PlayStation would risk launching its flagship AAA game near Rockstar’s open-world juggernaut, and all signs suggest it will not: the Mexican PlayStation Store has reportedly narrowed the release window to the start of the next school year.

Until now, Marvel’s Wolverine only had a broad “fall 2026” release window, which left plenty of uncertainty. Strictly speaking, based on the seasonal calendar, that would place the game between September 23 and December 21. Yet with GTA 6 scheduled for November 19 and other high-profile releases like Fable also on the horizon, the calendar was already shaping up to be crowded, so PlayStation may have decided to act.

Mexico Points to a Third-Quarter Launch for Marvel’s Wolverine

If you check the Spanish-language page for Marvel’s Wolverine, it still lists “fall 2026,” but the Mexican PlayStation Store entry narrows the date further, placing the Insomniac Games title in the “third quarter of 2026.” First, it is important to stress that Sony has not officially addressed this, so it could simply be an error. Second, looking at the calendar, this would put the launch between July and September, suggesting the game has not been moved forward, but will most likely arrive toward the end of September.

It is also worth noting that this period is not unusual for Insomniac, considering Marvel’s Spider-Man launched on September 7, 2018. Still, the studio’s release history has not followed a strict pattern, with some titles arriving in October and November, and others even launching in June, as was the case with Ratchet & Clank: Apart. Likewise, other PlayStation studios have released games at varying times, such as Ghost of Yōtei in October 2025 and Astro Bot in September 2024. As a result, there is no consistent September trend that would definitively confirm this information, so it should be treated cautiously.

What does seem clear is that, although Sony stands to benefit greatly from the arrival of GTA 6, no one appears eager to compete directly with Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive’s massive project. If confirmed, this scheduling move would align with the strategy many studios are adopting to avoid a head-to-head clash with Grand Theft Auto 6, one of the most significant releases of the decade.
