[SOP 2026] 007 First Light Finally Shows Its Story – Bond Isn’t a Legend Yet, But He’s Already Dangerous [VIDEO]

007 First Light just received a new story trailer and fresh screenshots, and IO Interactive is now laying out what kind of Bond origin story it wants to tell. The studio says this isn’t the fully formed icon, but an inexperienced, sometimes reckless agent who’s still learning what discipline really means in the espionage world.

According to Gematsu, IO Interactive has released the “Story” trailer and new screenshots for 007 First Light, putting the spotlight firmly on its take on Bond’s beginnings. In a press release, CEO Hakan Abrak said the goal was to reimagine the origin of James Bond by focusing on the formative moments that shape him into the agent players recognize – but not yet the legend he will become. “Players will recognize the unmistakable qualities that make him Bond from the very beginning.”

The trailer debuted during PlayStation’s State of Play and sets up a global intrigue: Bond is recruited into MI6 and steps into a world of espionage filled with hidden agendas and unseen threats. It offers early glimpses of Bond’s exploits in Iceland, emphasizing the judgment, nerve, and resourcefulness that catch MI6’s attention and push him toward the grueling training of a newly revived 00 programme. Bond is portrayed by Patrick Gibson, and the setup frames him as still inexperienced and occasionally reckless – someone who must constantly balance instinct with the structure and discipline of his new environment, where initiative is not always rewarded and obedience is often expected.

As Bond enters the field, he gains an unexpected advocate in M (portrayed by Priyanga Burford), who sees his potential as an agent capable of taking control of desperate situations and completing objectives by trusting his own judgment. Standing in sharp contrast is John Greenway (portrayed by Lennie James), a former 00 agent and the programme’s training instructor: disciplined, by-the-book, and quick to clash with Bond’s improvisational approach. Despite their differences, they are forced to work together when 009 resurfaces – a former British operative turned rogue, and the first real field test for the revived 00 programme. From the quiet Carpathian Mountains to the dangerous black market of Aleph, Bond’s pursuit spans the globe, leading him to the unpredictable Bawma (portrayed by Lenny Kravitz) and others. He will also have to contend with mysterious figures like Charlotte Roth (portrayed by Noemie Nakai), sorting loyalties and deciding who to trust before it’s too late.

Release Date Set for May 27, 2026 Across Multiple Platforms

007 First Light launches on May 27, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, and PC, with the PC version available via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Alongside the story trailer, the new screenshots provide a closer look at the game’s tone and locations.
