Crystal Dynamics has joined the remaster wave as well, and this time the overhaul is not being handled by Nightdive Studios.
Return to the dark world of Nosgoth and take control of the vampire Kain and his betrayed lieutenant, Raziel – two powerful beings bound by the conflict between free will and fate. Armed with legendary blades and supernatural abilities, fight your way through towering, gothic spaces filled with enemies, puzzles, and long-buried secrets, where every victory comes at a cost. It’s a timeless dark fantasy revived for a new generation.
Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered has been updated with new high-definition visuals, refined controls, and a modernized in-game camera, with the option to switch between the remastered presentation and the original look at any time. This new edition also includes a Photo Mode, alternate character skins, an extensive lore reader, as well as unreleased content and “lost levels” drawn from the original game.
Play as both Kain and Raziel, each with distinct abilities, combat styles, and perspectives that shape how the story unfolds. Explore ruined cities, ancient temples, and towering strongholds packed with environmental puzzles, challenging enemies, and horrific secrets. Alongside the updated visuals and improved handling, the modernized camera supports on-the-fly swapping between modern and classic presentations. You can also unlock alternate skins for Kain and Raziel inspired by Legacy of Kain canon.
Legacy of Kain: Defiance was originally directed by Amy Hennig, who later achieved major success with Uncharted, among other titles. The game first launched for PlayStation 2, Xbox, and PC in November 2003. The remaster will launch on March 2 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Fun fact: the original Xbox and PC ports were handled by Nixxes Software, now owned by Sony, which still focuses heavily on PC ports.
