[SOP 2026] Resident Evil Requiem: Raccoon City Syndrome Is Spreading [VIDEO]

Capcom has shown the public Resident Evil 9 for the fourth time, and there is definitely something in the video that should not be overlooked.

Resident Evil Requiem, the ninth mainline entry in the iconic Resident Evil survival horror series, revealed new gameplay with high-flying action and terrifying survival horror. Ahead of release, additional details were shared about new characters like Emily, Victor Gideon, and Nathan Dempsey, alongside more of the horrifying enemies you’ll be forced to face.

Resident Evil Requiem focuses on two protagonists: FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft, delivering spine-tingling survival horror, and legendary agent Leon S. Kennedy, bringing exhilarating, death-defying action. You can switch at any time between a first-person perspective for deeper immersion and a third-person viewpoint for a more dynamic flow. Along the way, you’ll also run into a wide range of supporting characters.

Emily is a young girl Grace finds at the Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center. She is extremely pale and skinny. Nathan Dempsey is Grace’s supervisor at the FBI. Even though he knows Grace is still haunted by her mother’s death, he has tasked her with investigating the latest string of deaths. Victor Gideon is the primary suspect in the strange fatalities plaguing the United States. Sources claim he once specialized in T-virus research at the Umbrella Corporation, the pharmaceutical company at the heart of the Raccoon City incident.

So what are we getting at with the headline? At 1:02, Leon takes off his glove – and he’s injured. That’s Raccoon City syndrome, and we’re looking straight at a symptom. And yes, everyone who was in the city during Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 is affected, which means that after Resident Evil 4, Leon has become a victim of infection again. The question is whether there’s a cure. It wouldn’t be surprising if the franchise took a particularly dark turn, and this short moment may be the first clear sign of it. Then again, Capcom might prove us wrong…

Resident Evil Requiem is set to release on February 27 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
