TECH NEWS – The situation surrounding memory has become so dire that the component is now worth its weight in gold amid the memory crisis.
As memory prices rise, fraudsters are increasingly interested in obtaining it. To prevent this, Corsair is redesigning the packaging of its Vengeance DDR5 memory, switching to a transparent plastic case that makes the RAM more visible. Corsair recently explained the change and the reasons behind it. According to the company, the new packaging is made from recycled plastic and prevents static buildup, protecting expensive components from damage during shipping.
“As DRAM prices continue to rise, protecting product authenticity has become increasingly important. That’s why we have updated our DRAM packaging, focusing on security and transparency while retaining environmental responsibility. To further improve protection, the packaging includes a tamper-evident belly label that tears when opened, making any attempt to reseal the package immediately visible. Given the current value of DRAM kits, this added layer of security helps protect customers and retailers from return fraud,” wrote Corsair.
There are two advantages to switching to the new packaging. First, when purchasing from a retailer, we can see the RAM, meaning we can check what we are buying. Previously, there was only a small window on the back of the packaging. The memory also fits perfectly into the new packaging, making it easy to check from a distance. Second, as it is a sealed plastic package, it is difficult to open and tamper with without leaving traces of manipulation. Even if a fraudster were to copy the Vengeance memory perfectly, it would be difficult to open and replace without the buyer or retailer noticing.
According to Corsair, boxed memory modules will be more secure thanks to the reintroduction of security tags. It’s a minor change, but a welcome one. Unfortunately, the reason for this change is that memory modules are becoming unaffordable for those on a tight budget.
