Unreliable Narrators (Two Falls) has announced an adventure game focusing on human experiences rather than war.
Gallipoli, 1915. Far from home, Fisher leaves his quiet harbor town in Newfoundland to join the British war effort alongside his friends. They expect a brief adventure full of tales to bring back home. What awaits them is not glory, but dirt, loss, and a touch of madness. They experience the quiet gestures that hold a regiment together, impossible choices, the weight of survival, and dubious stews that no one back home would dare call edible.
The Caribou Trail is a visceral, first-person narrative about a group of friends who are sent on some of the Great War’s most unlikely missions. Inspired by real testimonies, The Caribou Trail blends history with fiction to portray a rarely explored front of WWI: Gallipoli, from the landing to the final evacuation. Cut through barbed wire in no man’s land on a desperate reconnaissance mission. Silence a sniper holding the line. Make noise during a chaotic evacuation. Each step is experienced through your own eyes. But this isn’t about winning the war; it’s about enduring it. Explore the back lines, feel the weight of anticipation, stumble through the trenches, and reclaim fallen comrades’ dog tags. Share stories with those who still have the strength to speak. Sit by the fire, share ghostly tales (that may or may not be true), and find warmth around the campfire.
When the time comes, you can choose whether to pull the trigger. Each gesture brings you closer to the men laughing beside you and falling before you. There is no score. No kill count. Only resilience, fleeting friendships, and the fragile hope of making it home remain. War may take everything, but it also forges bonds. You and your companions are not hardened soldiers but ordinary men – fishermen, dreamers, and storytellers – cooking fish and brews in battered pots, laughing at bad jokes, and clinging to one another when the silence becomes too heavy. In the chaos, these small rituals become lifelines – reminders of who you are and who you’re fighting beside. What begins as survival becomes brotherhood, etched into memory long after the guns fall silent.
Gordon is insufferable and lovable. He’s always the center of attention. He’ll crack a joke or roast you at the worst possible moment, but he’ll always be there for you. Lonnie is a whimsical, dreamy kid who feels like an outsider but still strives to do his best. He compensates for his lack of military prowess with his warmth and spirit. He’ll even share a spooky story or two to change the mood. Fisher, the middle brother, is always defusing (or participating in) Gordon and Lonnie’s bickering. In the face of war’s horrors, Fisher’s character is defined by his willingness to see things as they are or delve into superstitious escapism. These are the faces you will remember long after Gallipoli.
When night falls, the line between reality and imagination blurs. Are the shadows in the trenches just tricks of the firelight or spirits drawn to the living? In The Caribou Trail, folklore and psychological horror intertwine, reflecting how soldiers made sense of a world that no longer made sense. What you find may not change history, but it might change you.
The Caribou Trail will be released sometime this year for PlayStation 5 and PC.
