An ambitious PC mod is trying to give Resident Evil 3 Remake what many players felt was missing: restored cut content, expanded locations, and reworked gameplay systems. Called Resident Evil 3 Last Escape, the project is not just about nostalgia, but about reshaping the remake into a darker, more survival-focused experience.
Among Resident Evil fans, one recurring criticism of the 2020 Resident Evil 3 Remake has been that, despite its strong presentation, too much iconic content from the original game was removed. A modder is now taking a serious shot at addressing that with Resident Evil 3 Last Escape, a large-scale project built to restore missing material while adding new ideas on top.
Based on the currently shared descriptions and footage, this is far more than a small tweak pack. The creator describes it as a full reimagining and expansion, with a larger city, reworked level flow, and redesigned gameplay systems meant to push the remake closer to the tone and structure fans expected from the original Resident Evil 3.
Cut Areas Return, and Nemesis Encounters Are Being Reworked Too
The biggest draw is the restoration of locations that players have been asking for since launch. Early previews and feature lists point to new city sections, the return of the Clock Tower, and additional areas such as the park, cemetery, the RPD, and more.
The project also goes beyond environment restoration. The modder is reworking and adding Nemesis encounters, along with additional boss fights. One showcased example changes an early remake sequence by replacing a Nemesis encounter with a zombie, mirroring how that moment played out in the original game.
System changes are also part of the package. The mod is planned to overhaul crafting with new gunpowder types, introduce new puzzles, and bring back the Ink Ribbon save system from Resident Evil 2, which immediately gives the project a more classic survival-horror flavor.
There Is Promising Footage Already, but No Release Date Yet
The creator has already published several videos showing real progress, including new areas, items, and the Ink Ribbon system, as well as fan-favorite touches like Jack’s Bar. That matters because it shows this is not just a wishlist project, but something with playable work already in motion.
Even so, Resident Evil 3 Last Escape still has no announced release window. Development is ongoing, and for now the safest conclusion is that this is a very ambitious PC mod that aims to rebuild part of the experience many players felt was lost in Capcom‘s official remake.
If it reaches the finish line, it could end up being the version of Resident Evil 3 Remake that many fans have wanted for years.
