MOVIE NEWS – 233 million views in a single week. In 9 days, Prime Video will add a new take on a record-breaking British classic. It is neither The Boys nor The Rings of Power – the most-watched trailer in the history of an Amazon series belongs to Young Sherlock.
There is a real chance that, within days, we will be talking about a Prime Video success on the level of The Rings of Power, Reacher, or The Boys. Maybe that sounds premature, but a similar mood is probably circulating at Amazon & MGM Studios after the reaction to the newest trailer for Young Sherlock, a show that was not initially positioned as a flagship launch and is already smashing internal records.
Based on figures shared by the company itself – numbers we cannot independently confirm – the trailer for the Matthew Parkhill-created series, produced by Guy Ritchie, pulled in 233 million views during its first seven days across multiple social platforms. No other title on the streaming service had reached that mark before. “The game has definitely begun. Young Sherlock is the most-viewed trailer of any Prime Video series in its first week.”
Young Sherlock premieres on Prime Video on March 4, so the creative team can hardly complain about a lack of audience awareness. The open question now is whether the footage released so far is also strong enough to push viewers onto the subscription platform next week and convince them to actually start the show. By 2026, after all, audiences have already seen plenty of Sherlock Holmes adaptations, including Guy Ritchie’s two films from more than a decade ago starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law as Watson, his loyal “squire.”
That said, it is worth stressing that the two projects are not connected beyond sharing the director of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. While the trailer clearly suggests a similar creative flavor, they exist in separate universes, so the series should not be treated as a true prequel, at least not in any strict sense. Even so, it is still possible that viewers will spot a few details that loosely bridge the two sagas.
Set in 1870s Oxford and expanding into overseas adventures, the story follows the unruly teenager before he becomes Baker Street’s most famous resident. According to the official synopsis: “Holmes is a disgraced, raw, and unfiltered young man who becomes embroiled in a murder case that threatens his freedom. His first mystery uncovers an international conspiracy that culminates in an explosive confrontation, changing his life forever.” On paper, that sounds very promising.
Young Sherlock Holmes Also Shows Up in Video Games
As a side note, the detective’s younger years have already been explored in gaming as well. Frogwares released the excellent Sherlock Holmes Chapter One in 2021, and the game is currently 90% off on Steam at just €4.99, which makes it hard not to recommend giving it a shot.
