TECH NEWS – Jason Schreier says Sony Interactive Entertainment may scale back PC releases for its traditional, story-driven games, while keeping its live-service projects on multiple platforms.
Over the past few years, a steady stream of former PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 exclusives has arrived on PC, including franchises like The Last of Us, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Horizon, and God of War. Now there are signs that the next phase may not follow the same pattern. On the Triple Click podcast, Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier said traditional single-player experiences could remain console exclusives for the foreseeable future.
His sense is that PC releases would focus primarily on PlayStation live-service titles, while the big single-player conversions to PC slow down or stop. Host Kirk Hamilton pressed him on whether that could mean shutting the door even on future games, including a hypothetical Ghost of Tsushima 3. Schreier pointed to Marvel’s Wolverine, which is set to launch on PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026. He said he would not be surprised if the game never comes to PC, and even if it eventually does, the point is that for the visible future you would still need a PlayStation to play it.
That would be a clear shift from recent practice, but Schreier is not convinced the impact would be as dramatic as some expect. In his view, the PC push was never as transformative as the loudest arguments claim, and he does not see a pullback as a massive blow. The most recent State of Play did show multiple titles headed to PC, including Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. Schreier’s point is that not all of those are made by PlayStation Studios, so the real direction could be set by major first-party releases like Ghost of Yotei – which has not been announced for PC – and Marvel’s Wolverine. On ResetEra, Schreier also stressed that “this isn’t speculation”, adding that topics sometimes come up on the show before he is ready to publish, and that he will look into it and return with more.
