Polish studio Questline has released patch 1.20 for Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, its biggest update yet – bringing a new explorable area, two minibosses, a new quest, and a deep rebalance of the game’s troubled third act.
Some fantasy RPGs are born with the ambition to go toe to toe with the biggest names in the genre. Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, developed by Polish studio Questline, arrived last year without much fanfare but quickly spread through the community by word of mouth: its open-world sandbox and unmistakable The Elder Scrolls DNA earned it the nickname ‘Polish Skyrim‘ within days. The developers, however, never pretended the game was flawless – and now they are making good on their promise to fix what needs fixing.
Patch 1.20 has landed, and Questline describes it directly as “huge.” Its main focus is the game’s third act, which the studio openly acknowledged had issues: according to the patch notes, “the game becomes significantly easier during the second half of Act 2 and in Act 3,” and “players tended to become very powerful with ease, even if they weren’t trying to.” The update addresses this with a comprehensive rebalance of the game’s second half, aimed at restoring a meaningful sense of challenge throughout.
New Area, New Minibosses, New Quest
On the content side, the headline addition is a brand-new explorable cave called Etherbloom Love, which expands the map of the game’s final stretch. Two minibosses accompany it: Sleepwalker, a massive tree-like creature, and Cairnguard, a warrior who fights with his bare fists. A new quest called The Empty House has also been added, alongside reworks to several existing locations – including the mountain bandit camp and Alysa’s Seacrest Manor – and new terrain and pathways throughout the region to improve exploration flow.
Questline is not stopping there: a second paid DLC is confirmed to arrive before the end of March, following the first expansion that launched at the end of 2025 with over 15 hours of content. For anyone who has yet to try the ‘Polish Skyrim‘, or who put it down due to the third act’s weaknesses, now is a good time to return.
