A Childhood Obsession Led the Wayans Brothers to Horror Spoof

MOVIE NEWS – The hard-R movie spoof is not dead, and if it ever was, it is now making a full-scale comeback. Under that banner, Marlon Wayans and his brothers set about making Scary Movie 6, the sixth entry in the notorious franchise. Once again, they will parody the most popular horror movies and cross the boundaries of political correctness with deliberate intent.

The Wayans brothers – Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory – left the series they had created under stormy circumstances after the second film in 2001, following a clash with Bob and Harvey Weinstein, who ran Miramax, the studio behind the movies. After the Weinsteins fell, however, the path opened up again, which is why they returned to the franchise.

In his latest interview, Marlon revealed that school experiences played a decisive role in leading him and his brothers toward comedy. Their school notes constantly said that they had “disrupted class by clowning around”, because they were the class jokers wherever they went. As punishment, they were sentenced to detention – a standard disciplinary method in the English-speaking world, where unruly students are kept back after lessons and allowed to go home much later. But the Wayans brothers never lost their appetite for constant fooling around, and during those frequent detentions they kept refining the jokes that made their teachers’ lives hell while bringing enormous joy to their classmates. “That’s when we realized entertaining other people was our calling, because laughter is contagious”, Marlon told TMZ.
